KVC understands that when a family is in crisis, they need an array of services. We pride ourselves on helping children and their parents work through struggles in hopes they can find a healthy balance. A number of things set KVC apart from other organizations in our field.
Trauma Systems Therapy
Children who experience trauma are often significantly more reactive to their surroundings and have special emotional needs. KVC staff members are trained in Trauma Systems Therapy, an intervention for children who have experienced complex trauma due to various forms of abuse, neglect or domestic violence. KVC’s training for employees and use of evidence-based practices differentiate us and allow children to move more quickly back to living within a family.
Telepsychiatry
A shortage of child psychiatrists nationwide, especially in rural areas, often makes it difficult for every child who needs a doctor to have access to one. To combat this problem, we provide telemedicine services. By using video conferencing, patients have far-reaching access to behavioral specialists. We believe no case is too difficult for us to tackle, and implementing this unique treatment saves time and bridges the gap between doctors and families.
Parent Management Training
To ensure our staff members have the tools needed to make a positive impact on children and families in crisis, KVC offers a Parent Management Training (PMT) course to our employees. PMT provides in-home parenting intervention techniques tailored to the specific needs of each family circumstance. The training consists of 10 days of classroom instruction, followed by six to nine months working with coaching supports. PMT gives employees skills to help parents and children practice more effective ways of interacting. PMT also provides parents with usable problem-solving skills to work through conflicts.
