B. Wayne Sims

Wayne Sims, President and Chief Executive Officer of KVC Health Systems, Inc. began working for KVC in 1980 and has served on the board of directors since 1987.  He has a strong history of developing community resources and has led three capital campaigns to build quality facilities for the services provided.

Under Mr. Sims’ direction, KVC pioneered the privatization of child welfare services in Kansas in 1996, the first state in the nation to fully privatize children’s services.  As a result, KVC has spread across five states to provide a wide array of services to children and families in need. Services range from in-patient psychiatric hospital services to in-home family services, and KVC has established a network of more than 1,000 foster home placements with Mr. Sims as CEO.  KVC was accredited in Kansas in 1991 by The Joint Commission.

Mr. Sims believes KVC is unique for an organization of its kind, one that offers a broad continuum of services that promote learning and growth.  He endeavors to raise the bar for service providers in the child welfare field, not only in the current states serviced, but nationwide.

Mr. Sims has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Charles N. Kimball Founders Award for outstanding entrepreneurial leadership presented by the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, the Excellence in Nonprofit Management Award presented by the Center for Management Assistance, the Kansas National Association of Social Workers Professional of the Year Award, and the Mid America Hall of Fame Award presented by the Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Mr. Sims earned a bachelor’s in social services from William Jewell College, a master’s in clinical psychology from Central Missouri University and a master’s in health services administration from Central Michigan University.
