School-based Family Services

A need exists in school systems for proficient, quality mental healthcare for students. To fill this growing need, KVC has developed partnerships with school districts in Kansas and Missouri to provide in-home family, individual and group therapy, along with outpatient psychiatric care.

KVC’s school-based family services originated in Missouri’s Independence School District (ISD) in 2007. The partnership serves all 25 ISD schools and provides counseling to more than 200 children and families every year.

After witnessing the success of the Independence project, The Gardner Edgerton School District in Kansas and the Center School District in Kansas City, Missouri, both initiated partnerships with KVC in 2009.

We hope to expand school-based family services to more school districts in the future to continue effectively managing family mental health issues, improving children’s school performance and developing problem-solving skills to prevent family breakups.
