Fred Ball: A Celebration of His Life
On October 28, 2011, KVC – and the Kansas City community at large – lost one of its heroes. Fred Ball, a pioneer and leader in the grocery industry, continually contributed his leadership and support to KVC for more than 30 years, and we are deeply saddened by his passing.
Fred has been integral to KVC’s mission to enrich and enhance the lives of children and families. He served many years on the Executive Board of Directors, provided financial support and leadership to multiple capital campaigns, and founded KVC’s largest annual fundraiser – the Ball’s Charity Golf Classic. Fred and his wife JoAnn were honored in 2010 as one of the 40 Heroes for KVC’s 40th Anniversary, and the impact of his dedicated service and generosity will continue to improve the lives of children and families for years to come.
Fred’s son, David Ball, is Chairman of the KVC Executive Board of Directors, his daughter, Diane Wilkerson, serves on the KVC General Board and helped initiate the KVC Holiday Tree Gala, and his daughter, Debbie Simpson, has also been an active supporter of KVC events throughout the years. We are heartened that they, along with his grandchildren, continue Fred’s legacy of care and commitment.
Fred Ball has left an indelible mark on KVC, the community and the thousands of children and families we serve. He will be dearly missed, but certainly never forgotten.
