Webinar 3 – ADHD: Diagnosis, Misdiagnosis, Care and Treatment

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most common diagnosis youth share. However, one important question always persists: As medical and psychiatric professionals, how can we be sure that what we are observing are the symptoms of ADHD and not a youth experiencing a trauma response? In this training, we will discuss the difference in symptoms and behaviors for ADHD and trauma response and the implications in a child’s treatment plan. We will identify common medications and behavioral interventions, as well as review the wide variety of symptoms and commonly overlooked presentations of this disorder.

In this training, you will learn:

• How to define and understand ADHD diagnosis in youth, including symptoms
• Treatment approaches for children and teens, including the use of psychiatric medications
• How to differentiate between the symptoms of ADHD and a trauma response to avoid misdiagnosis
• How these treatment interventions and tools have been helpful in clinical care in a case study
