Treatment Foster Care

Do you have experience caring for youth with elevated needs?Treatment Foster Care may be perfect for you!

Treatment Foster Care (referred to as Therapeutic Foster Care in Kansas and Nebraska) is a form of specialized foster care that provides individualized therapeutic interventions to children and teens with significant medical, developmental, emotional or behavioral needs who require a higher level of care.

What is Treatment Foster Care?

Treatment foster care (TFC) provides short-term services designed to create a more therapeutic
environment for youth, and combines the supportive aspects of foster care with clinical treatments
typically found in residential mental health treatment settings. The main goal of TFC is to provide children and teens with elevated needs with a more intensive but less restrictive placement in a nurturing home environment until they can be successful in a more standard home setting.

Foster parents who care for children and youth through TFC are among our most dedicated and passionate caregivers, and they experience some of the most fulfilling outcomes by making a difference in the lives of the youth who need it most.

Children and teens who qualify for TFC often come from challenging circumstances where stability and trust have been hard to find. Therefore, this is a great fit for caregivers who have experience caring for youth with elevated needs. Treatment-level foster parents serve an important role as the primary change agent in a youth’s life. You help the child or teen develop positive relationships and social, emotional and behavioral skills.

Giving these youth a chance to build a genuine connection with you and learn what a healthy relationship looks like not only sets them up for success in your household, but also benefits every interaction they have as they move into adulthood.
