What is a Holiday Hero?

A Holiday Hero is an individual, family, group, business or community partner who helps fulfill a holiday wish list for a child or teen served by KVC.

You can shop for requested gifts or make a financial gift to help KVC provide them.

How does the Holiday Heroes wish list process work?

Start by completing the Holiday Hero sign-up form. A local KVC team member will connect you with a child’s or teen’s holiday wish list and share the information you need to shop for and return their gifts.

Gift deadlines and drop-off locations vary by community, so your local KVC team will provide those details when you receive your wish list.

Do children and teens choose the gifts on their wish lists?

Yes. Each child or teen creates a holiday wish list filled with gifts they’ve personally chosen and are hoping to receive. Their list reflects their interests, needs and favorite things.

What kinds of gifts are on a Holiday Heroes wish list?

Every wish list is different. A child or teen might request a favorite toy, new shoes, clothing, art supplies, headphones, books, gift cards or other items they would like to receive.

Who does Holiday Heroes support?

Holiday Heroes supports children and teens served through participating KVC programs and communities.

Depending on their needs, they may be receiving foster care and family support, mental and behavioral health services, residential treatment, education or other services that strengthen children and families.

What states does KVC serve, and where can I drop off Holiday Heroes gifts?

KVC serves children, teens and families in Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska and West Virginia.

If you sign up to fulfill a Holiday Heroes wish list, gifts are returned locally in the state or community you choose to support. Visit your local KVC Holiday Heroes page for gift deadlines, drop-off locations and other details:

Who can become a Holiday Hero?

Anyone can participate. Individuals, families, friends, coworkers, businesses, churches, schools and community organizations can all become Holiday Heroes.

Groups and businesses can also request multiple wish lists and give together.

How much should I plan to spend on a Holiday Heroes wish list?

Every wish list is unique, but approximately $160 can support one child’s or teen’s Holiday Heroes wish list.

Your local KVC team will share any additional information you need when you receive your wish list.

Can I request more than one wish list?

Yes. You can fulfill one wish list or support several children and teens. Let us know how many wish lists you’d like when you sign up, and your local KVC team will help coordinate your matches.

Can I make a financial gift instead of shopping?

Yes. Financial gifts help KVC purchase requested holiday gifts and meet Holiday Heroes needs in participating communities.

A gift of approximately $160 can support one Holiday Heroes wish list, and gifts of any amount help fulfill holiday wishes.

How can I support youth receiving mental health treatment through Camber Mental Health?

Camber Mental Health and Children’s Mercy + Camber Mental Health provide specialized mental health treatment for children and teens, including inpatient and residential care.

If you’d like to support youth receiving inpatient or residential mental health treatment, you can make a financial gift directly to Camber Mental Health. Your generosity helps support Camber’s work serving youth and families.
