Camber Mental Health Locations Achieve WELL Health-Safety Rating

KVC Health Systems is proud to share that our Camber Children’s Mental Health hospitals and residential treatment centers in Kansas City, Hays, and Wichita have officially achieved the WELL Health-Safety Rating from the International WELL Building Institute—making them the only clinical mental health spaces in the country to earn this certification.

“To say I am excited is an understatement, and I look forward to assisting with getting Children’s Mercy + Camber Mental Health Mental Wellness Campus in Olathe certified as well once they hit their one-year operational status,” shares Tracie Lynn Calhoun, HR Manager Hospitals at KVC Health Systems. “For a behavioral health facility, this certification shows that we are passionate and intentional about the mental health and safety of our clients, as well as the health and safety of our staff.”

“The message the certification sends is that Camber values and invests in the health and safety of their employees and occupants. This is not a certification for those doing the bare minimum,” explains Ashley Langenfeld, Vice President and Director of Sustainability at Hoefer Welker. “The standard is created by a cross-section of experts from the medical, building, and research industries. Furthermore, health and wellness was not just considered in the day in and day out situations, but in ALL situations.”

The Right Environment is Essential to Healing

WELL Certification Camber Children’s Mental Health provides compassionate treatment at our inpatient hospitals and residential treatment centers for youth ages 6 to 18 who are experiencing mental health challenges. As an industry leader in mental health treatment, we provide an array of innovative programs to help clients achieve mental health wellness. Our approach includes psychiatric, medical, therapeutic, and educational services as well as emotion regulation and social skills development.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating is a trusted, third-party verified rating based on rigorous, evidence-based standards that focus on operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement, and emergency plans, ensuring our spaces meet the highest standards. It’s a proud milestone that reflects our dedication to creating environments that support the physical and mental wellness of our clients, our employees and everyone who enters our spaces.

From improving air and water quality to supporting mental health and emergency preparedness, we’ve put thoughtful, science-backed policies in place to create environments that promote both physical and emotional wellness. “Whether you are working at Camber or entrusting them with a loved one for their care, you can feel confident no matter what, they will be safe and cared for. If you are a neighbor, you can rest assured knowing that this is a safe and secure facility near your home,” says Langenfeld.

“It was a privilege to work on this project and see the solid procedures already in place as we gathered information to achieve the WELL certification. I’m so grateful to work for a company that puts the health of employees, clients, and their families at the forefront.” -Diana Wurster, Marketing Automation Specialist

WELL certified

Camber is one of two organizations in the state of Kansas, and one of four clinical healthcare organizations in the world to be able to don this certification. “Hopefully, this third-party verified certification helps continue to break the stigma on mental health and that needed places of care like this can coexist in any situation if securely and safely maintained, such as this one,”  Langenfeld shares.

At KVC, we believe that care begins the moment you walk through the door—because the right environment is essential to healing. Whether you’re here to work, receive care, or visit a loved one, you can rest assured that your safety and wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do.
